Near North to Honor Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky

Chicago, IL In recognition of National Primary Care Week (October 10-14, 2011), Near North Health Service Corporation (Near North) will honor Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-9th District) with the 2011 Distinguished Community Health Defender Award, on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the Uptown Community Health Center located at 4867 N. Broadway. The Distinguished Community Health Defender Award Ceremony will be held from 10:00am-12:00pm, and will feature special guest speakers, an award presentation, a meet-and-greet with Near North board members and staff, site tours, and refreshments. This is a free community event. National Primary Care Week is an annual event that highlights the importance of primary care, and its impact to medically underserved populations. Near North is pleased to honor Congresswoman Schakowsky for her work as a crusader in “looking out” for her fellow citizens in healthcare legislation. She has helped women by eliminating co-pays for preventive services; helped young people to stay healthy by allowing them to remain on the parents’ health insurance until the age of 26; blocked unreasonable insurance premium rate increases; and continues to provide “Real Solutions to Real Problems.” To RSVP for this event, please call (312) 337-1073, Ext. 208.
